In John 1:1-2 (NIV), John tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." In John 1:14 (NIV), he continues with, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."
This parallels Genesis 1:26 (NIV) when God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness." This tells us that Jesus existed with God from the beginning. They are two different entities, yet they are the same. And according to my studies, every time the Word is mentioned in the Bible, it is referring to Jesus.
Therefore, every word Jesus spoke was from God Himself. No wiser man ever lived on this earth than Christ, the Son of God. That's why His words are often referenced in red. Dictionary.com says that red letter means: memorable; especially important or happy. I always thought that the red letters in the Bible not only were memorable because Jesus said them, but also maybe represented the blood He shed on the cross for us.

Jesus came to live on the earth and teach us what the Word really meant and how we are supposed to live to glorify Him, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. His ministry came to an abrupt end when he went to the cross to die for our sins. But that wasn't the end! He conquered death for us all when He was resurrected three days after His torture and death.
When he returned from the grave, Jesus told His disciples in Mark 16:15 (NLT) to, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone." In Matthew 28:19 (NKJV), he also told His disciples to, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations."
Jesus promised to send the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth in John 14:16-17 (KJV) to help the disciples remember what He had taught them and to live in them so they would be able to teach new believers. And in Acts 2, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to the congregation that had gathered with Jesus' disciples.
Today, the Holy Spirit continues to lives in all believers as a guide to help them as they go through life and to help other believers. So, as Jesus' modern-day disciples, we are all commissioned to do no less than His original disciples.
